Der Botanische Garten der Universität Leipzig ist ein Ort der Begegnung an der Universität Leipzig. Getreu unserem Motto bringen wir die globale Vielfalt der Pflanzen nach Leipzig, um sie hier zu erforschen, zu vermitteln und zu schützen.

Als ein zentraler Ort des Wissenstransfers der Universität Leipzig interagieren wir in vielen Projekten mit Bürger:innen und vielen Akteur:innen der Gesellschaft. Dabei werden aktuelle biowissenschaftliche Themen wie Biodiversität, Ökosystemleistungen, Auswirkungen des Klimawandels und Nachhaltigkeit thematisiert. Der direkte Kontakt mit den Pflanzen und ihrer Vielfalt ist für uns das zentrale Element auf dem Weg zum Transferzentrum für Pflanzenvielfalt, Botanik und Ökologie.

ManyBabies

ManyBabies (MB) is a collaborative project for replication and best practices in developmental psychology research. Our goal is to bring researchers together to address difficult outstanding theoretical and methodological questions about the nature of early development and how it is studied. For example:

• Do infants prefer helpers over hinderers?
• When do infants like familiarity and when do they like novelty?
• Do babies find infant-directed speech (babytalk) more interesting than adult-directed speech?

ManyMoments

The ManyMoments project aims to improve the replicability and generalizability of the findings obtained with intensive longitudinal data (e.g., experience sampling method, ambulatory assessment, etc.).

For that purpose, we:

• compile information about tools that help improving the
  replicability and generalizability in the work with intensive
  longitudinal data
• conduct multi-lab data collections with the experience sampling
  method in multiple contexts (e.g., multiple universities, multiple
  countries, etc)
• plan to conduct many-analysts re-analysis of existing ESM datasets
  pooled across multiple data sources to test whether published
  findings replicate and generalize
• develop analytical methods for a better operationalization of
  replicability and generalizability in intensive longitudinal data
• initiate discussions about the need and solutions for more
  replicable and generalizable ESM research in conferences and meetings

ManyPrimates

The ManyPrimates project was initiated to facilitate collaboration across study sites in primate cognition research. By joining forces, we hope to address important outstanding questions that individual labs could not answer by themselves. These include:

How reliable are effects in primate cognition research?
How do cognitive abilities map onto phylogeny?
How do environmental variables influence cognition?
How are individual differences in performance structured across tasks and species?

Luft Leipzig

Ausgestattet mit einem neuartigen Messrucksack und betreut durch TROPOS konnten Freiwillige jeweils eine Woche lang die Luft in Leipzig genauer unter die Lupe nehmen. Foto: Liina Tönisson, TROPOS

Wie gut ist die Luft, die wir atmen? Leipzigerinnen und Leipziger konnten im Rahmen von “Luft Leipzig” selbst Feinstaub und Ruß mobil in der Stadt messen. Im Rahmen des BMBF-Projekts WTimpact untersuchten vier Leibniz-Institute neue Formen des Wissenstransfers. Um die Sensibilisierung der Bevölkerung für den Umweltfaktor Luftqualität zu untersuchen, fanden ab September 2017 insgesamt 8 Workshops, zahlreichen Einzeleinweisungen und Geräteschulungen sowie Support bei Problemen per Email, Telefon und vor Ort statt. Dabei wurden interessierte Bürgerinnen und Bürger mit der neu aufgebauten innovativen Infrastruktur vertraut gemacht und nutzen diese danach selbstständig. Die Feldmessungen fanden zwischen April 2019 und Februar 2021 statt. Insgesamt beteiligten sich 98 Teilnehmende an dem Projekt zur Messung der Luftqualität im Stadtgebiet von Leipzig.

Cross-Linguistic Linked Data

The Cross-Linguistic Linked Data project is developing and curating interoperable data publication structures using Linked Data principles as integration mechanism for distributed resources. This philosophy allows for

• small-scale efforts to publish individual databases like WALS (World Atlas of Language Structures) or WOLD (World Loanword Database), thereby preserving the brands established by these projects,
• while at the same time facilitating a unified user experience across publications.

Within the project, this approach is applied to publishing lexical and grammatical databases already compiled at the MPI-EVA and elsewhere. This has led to a software framework which can be used to develop database journals, i.e. edited collections of databases submitted by linguists from around the world.

Open Educational Resources zu “Grammatik im Wandel: Ist digitales Schreiben (wirklich) so anders?”

Unterstützt durch die Digital Fellowship Sachsen hat Naomi Truan ein Lehrkonzept entwickelt zum Thema Grammatik und Schule im digitalen Zeitalter: durch teilnehmende Beobachtung und forschungsorientiertes Lernen den eigenen Sprachgebrauch digitaler Kommunikation sowie Vermittlungsmöglichkeiten grammatischer Strukturen untersuchen. Die im Rahmen des Projekts entstanden Materialien sind als Open Educational Resources verfügbar.
